As a new school year begins, I’m excited to kick things off in my fourth year at Blue Earth Area Schools as the Community Engagement/Workforce Coordinator! This time of year is always full of energy, new beginnings, and opportunities to bring our school and community even closer together.

In this role, I get to bring students, families, and our community together in meaningful ways through fun events, volunteer projects, and collaborations with local groups. Whether it’s organizing a school carnival, welcoming our exchange students through the American Exchange Project, touring local businesses with high school students, or encouraging students to get involved in service, I enjoy helping people feel connected and valued.

One of the highlights of the summer was sending eight Blue Earth Area students across the country through the American Exchange Project (AEP) and hosting ten students from across the United States. This program provides graduating seniors with a weeklong, all-expenses-paid trip to a different part of the United States, giving them a chance to connect, learn, and grow.

Lulu Frank,  who traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas, shared:
“I had an amazing time traveling with the American Exchange Project! I met some awesome people and we all bonded so quickly. I even met the CEO, David McCullough III. I 100% recommend this program to any high school senior. It's a great way to make connections, learn about a new place, and it's completely free!”

Abby Murphey, who visited Palo Alto, California, reflected:
“The American Exchange Project is a truly life-changing program! It allows you to see how the United States is very similar yet so different. I loved my week in Palo Alto. I felt like I met my people while I was there and created lifelong friendships even with exchange students who visited Blue Earth. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone and everyone!”

Lola Faulhaber, who traveled to Oak Cliff, Texas, said:
“I honestly really enjoyed the experience; there is nothing like this out there. Everyone who participates gets their own perspective of their trip, and I think it's worth signing up! It’s a free trip and you make so many friends and memories! I think back to my trip often and miss the people I made strong connections with along with those who came to Blue Earth! It's a small world out there! One of my new friends is in Alaska and often comes to visit Minnesota. You never know the connections you may have if you don't go!”

If you’re interested in learning more about becoming a host family for the Summer 2026 exchange, please reach out to me, I’d be happy to tell you more!

There’s so much to look forward to this year, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you. If you're ever interested in volunteering at the school or getting involved in our events, please don’t hesitate to reach out, I’d love to connect! I hope to see many of you at my monthly events!
