Program Spotlight - FFA

The FFA chapter is a vibrant, student-led organization dedicated to developing your potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. Members are working hard to connect more with our local community to build partnerships that benefit everyone.

Why Join FFA?

Students in the chapter highlight flexibility, skill development, and opportunity as key benefits:

  • Welcoming Environment: The group is always inviting, and new members can jump right in and choose the activities they want to do.

  • Skill Development: Students learn critical skills like communication, teamwork, and independence.

  • Career Building: Membership looks great on college and job applications because it demonstrates the ability to work well with others.

  • Flexibility: While officers meet weekly, general members can be as involved as they would like. Time commitment varies, but you can simply show up if you can make it, as meetings are not required but highly recommended.

Opportunities for Growth and Leadership

FFA empowers students with significant autonomy, with the advisor serving primarily to guide when needed. All major decisions are voted on by the entire chapter.

  • Leadership Roles: Opportunities include leading a Career Development Event (CDE) team, serving on the crop committee, or applying for an officer position.

  • Travel and Competition: Students can compete in regional and state CDE contests. They also have the chance to travel to the State Convention (U of M campus) and the National Convention (Indianapolis, Indiana).

  • Community Events: Annual anchor events include the Elementary Ag Day, making fruit baskets for the nursing home, holding an agricultural appreciation luncheon, and helping run the malt stand and kiddie barn during the county fair.

Membership Details

  • Eligibility: Membership is open to students in grades 8-12 who are enrolled in an agricultural education class at any point during the school year.

  • Meetings: Chapter meetings are run by the officer team using typical parliamentary procedures. They are held in the morning before school on the first Wednesday of each month in the school's ag room.

  • Funding: The chapter is funded by its annual fruit sale fundraiser, proceeds from the crop plot, concession stands, and donations. Membership is automatically covered for all students in an ag class at no cost to their families.
