As you have likely heard or read by now, BEA Schools has taken on community and family engagement as one of our top priorities this year. The reason for doing this is several fold. The primary reason is that research has proven time and again that when parents/guardians are engaged with the school, student achievement increases, discipline issues decrease, graduation rates increase, and school environment increases. Another reason we are focusing on this goal is because we all know how much we lost in connections the last several years. Restoring those connections has proven to be a slow process, but one that we are committed to not only restoring to its previous connection, but enhancing the level of engagement.
You have likely read or seen that BEA Schools has committed to this process by hiring a Community Engagement Coordinator, Brenda Millmann. Many schools around the state and nation have done something similar as we all value the importance of home and school engagement. There are a plethora of opportunities to become engaged with the school - one of which is this coming Saturday, November 5th. Join our school community at Pemberton gym for a showing of Hocus Pocus 2 from 3 pm - 5 pm. Bring a blanket, sleeping bag, and comfy clothes as you kick back, enjoy free popcorn and water, and take in a showing of this movie with other families.
We have several more opportunities for families to get involved as well. We are currently planning for some fun student activity evenings for students in MS and HS, doing some breakfast opportunities with students/adults in the school, not to mention our regular quarterly/semester conferences. We have continued offering these conferences as an in person or virtual option since we know that increases the chances of a family being present for conferences, which is a fantastic opportunity to engage with your child’s teacher. It is these key events that help to increase the chances of every student having high achievement.
We are also finding additional ways to partner with our communities to offer engagement opportunities. One of these opportunities presented itself when our Community Engagement Coordinator joined the B.E. Welcoming committee to assist in the Day of the Dead event. And what a successful event it was! Many, many thanks and kudos to the entire planning committee; especially our current and former BEA students and alumni: Carlos Rodriguez, Briseyda Salazar, and Fernanda Salazar, all who put in so much effort to see this event be a success. BEA is very proud of you all!

Como probablemente ya haya escuchado o leído, las Escuelas BEA han asumido la participación de la comunidad y la familia como una de nuestras principales prioridades este año. La razón para hacer esto es varias veces. La razón principal es que la investigación ha demostrado una y otra vez que cuando los padres/tutores se involucran con la escuela, aumenta el rendimiento de los estudiantes, disminuyen los problemas de disciplina, aumentan las tasas de graduación y aumenta el ambiente escolar. Otra razón por la que nos enfocamos en este objetivo es que todos sabemos cuánto perdimos en conexiones en los últimos años. Restaurar esas conexiones ha demostrado ser un proceso lento, pero estamos comprometidos a no solo restaurar su conexión anterior, sino también a mejorar el nivel de participación.
Probablemente haya leído o visto que BEA Schools se ha comprometido con este proceso al contratar a una coordinadora de participación comunitaria, Brenda Millmann. Muchas escuelas en todo el estado y la nación han hecho algo similar, ya que todos valoramos la importancia de la participación en el hogar y la escuela. Hay una gran cantidad de oportunidades para comprometerse con la escuela, una de las cuales es el próximo sábado 5 de noviembre. Únase a nuestra comunidad escolar en el gimnasio de Pemberton para ver Hocus Pocus 2 de 3:00 p. m. a 5:00 p. m. Traiga una manta, un saco de dormir y ropa cómoda mientras se relaja, disfruta de palomitas de maíz y agua gratis, y disfruta de una proyección de esta película con otras familias.
Tenemos varias oportunidades más para que las familias se involucren también. Actualmente estamos planeando algunas tardes divertidas de actividades estudiantiles para estudiantes de MS y HS, brindando oportunidades de desayuno con estudiantes/adultos en la escuela, sin mencionar nuestras conferencias regulares trimestrales/semestre. Continuamos ofreciendo estas conferencias como una opción en persona o virtual, ya que sabemos que aumenta las posibilidades de que una familia esté presente en las conferencias, lo cual es una oportunidad fantástica para interactuar con el maestro de su hijo. Son estos eventos clave los que ayudan a aumentar las posibilidades de que cada estudiante tenga un alto rendimiento.
También estamos encontrando formas adicionales de asociarnos con nuestras comunidades para ofrecer oportunidades de participación. Una de estas oportunidades se presentó cuando nuestro Coordinador de Participación Comunitaria se unió al comité de Bienvenida BE para ayudar en el evento del Día de los Muertos. ¡Y qué evento tan exitoso fue! Muchas, muchas gracias y felicitaciones a todo el comité de planificación; especialmente a nuestros actuales y antiguos alumnos y ex alumnos de BEA: Carlos Rodríguez, Briseyda Salazar y Fernanda Salazar, todos los que pusieron mucho esfuerzo para que este evento fuera un éxito. ¡BEA está muy orgullosa de todos vosotros!
