Wow! That about sums up all the thoughts and feelings I have from attending the 2nd annual Maroon and Gold Gala. What an incredible evening of generosity, fellowship, and support for our students and schools. Many years ago, a group of folks came together and created the BEA Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization created in the late 1990s. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide financial support for BEA students that allow them additional opportunities that do not perhaps fit into the regular school budget or extend beyond the classroom.
I perused through the Foundation binder from my office files and found some of the items funded in part or whole from the Foundation over the years:
- Youth Frontiers Retreats, including Kindness, Respect, and Courage retreats
- Valleyfair Trip for 8th Graders
- 6th Grade Trek
- Area Career Exploration Day
- School Patrol T-Shirts and Twins Game Tickets
- Orchestra Camp
- Theater Camp
- Field Trip to History Museum, Capitol, and Fort Snelling
- Science Museum Field Trip
- College Fair Trip
- American Mathematics Competition
The above list is just a small sample of what the Foundation has supported over the years. You might ask how the Foundation is able to support all of these opportunities. They do all of their funding of opportunities through their fundraising! In the past, the biggest fundraiser for the Foundation was called Bucs Night Out. This was a great evening that had a plethora of silent and live auction items for patrons to bid on and enjoy. In Fall of 2020, Covid put a pause on this fundraiser, which also presented an opportunity to try something new….enter the Maroon and Gold Gala!
The first annual Maroon and Gold Gala was held in November 2021, and what a great event it was! Instead of bidding on silent auction items, guests purchased a ticket to attend and bid on a limited number of live auction events. There was also the opportunity to participate in some games that evening that also contributed to the fundraising totals. This event was deemed a smashing success as it had raised more funds than ever before.
And now, the second annual Maroon and Gold Gala has surpassed last year’s record as they have reported their initial tallies have put them on track to surpass last year’s fundraising amount - the most ever raised in 24 years! The incredible generosity of our communities is second to none, and we thank everyone for all of the support for our schools and our students.
This event could not be possible without the tireless work from the wonderful volunteers who meet all year long to plan this amazing event. Our “thank you” does not seem adequate enough to recognize all the hard work of the following volunteers who make up the Maroon and Gold Gala committee: Kristi Schonrock, Brooke Prestegard, Sara Hauskins, Vicki Boeckman, Becky Hartman, Kim Fenske, Amanda Ziegler, Tasha Walker, Megan Hanson-Haase, and Brenda Millmann.
These “thank you’s” would not be complete without acknowledging Juba’s, who completed a “round up” campaign in November, and the Dollar Store, who collected free will donations. Thank you to these two awesome businesses for partnering with the Foundation!
And last, but certainly not least, is a big shout out and thank you to the entire BEA Foundation Board: President Brooke Prestegard, Vice President Tim Juba, Treasurer Dan Ristau, Secretary Vicki Boeckman, Chase Brandt, Mary Eckhardt, Ann Anderson, Jason Murphy, Jessica Sturtz, Stacy Haase, Ryan Foster, Chelsey Haase, Lenne Holland, and Amber Patten. This crew puts in a lot of time and effort throughout the year to ensure our students have opportunities beyond the classroom, and for that, we cannot thank you enough!
¡Guau! Eso resume todos los pensamientos y sentimientos que tengo al asistir a la 2da Gala anual Maroon and Gold. Qué noche tan increíble de generosidad, compañerismo y apoyo para nuestros estudiantes y escuelas. Hace muchos años, un grupo de personas se reunió y creó la Fundación BEA, una organización 501(c)3 creada a fines de la década de 1990. El propósito de la Fundación es brindar apoyo financiero a los estudiantes de BEA que les permita oportunidades adicionales que quizás no encajen en el presupuesto escolar regular o se extiendan más allá del salón de clases.

La lista anterior es solo una pequeña muestra de lo que la Fundación ha apoyado A través de los años. En el pasado, la mayor recaudación de fondos para la Fundación se llamaba Bucs Night Out. Y ahora, la segunda Gala anual Maroon and Gold ha superado el récord del año pasado, ya que informaron que sus recuentos iniciales los han puesto en camino de superar la cantidad de recaudación de fondos del año pasado, ¡la mayor cantidad jamás recaudada en 24 años! La increíble generosidad de nuestras comunidades es insuperable, y agradecemos a todos por todo el apoyo para nuestras escuelas y nuestros estudiantes.
Este evento no podría ser posible sin el trabajo incansable de los maravillosos voluntarios que se reúnen durante todo el año para planificar este increíble evento.
