Greetings Students and Families of Blue Earth Area!

It’s been a little while since you have last heard from me, so I thought it would be a great time to send an email to you all that has some important dates, information, and overview included in it. I sure hope that all of you have taken the time to enjoy these summer days with your family. After the challenges of the past year, I think we all needed it!

Important Fall Dates:

- August 12 @ 7 pm: Athletics Meeting @ BEAHS Performing Arts Center. Attendance is not mandatory, but an opportunity to hear important information on activities, forms, and fees.

- September 1: Join us anytime from 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm for the Back to School Bucs Bash for families and students in grades 8-12 @ BEAHS. This exciting new event will replace our traditional open house. Come to the Bucs Bash for games, a dunk tank, and booths for each department complete with prizes. Students will also receive their Chromebook this evening.

- September 7: First day of school for students in grades 8-12

- September 7 & 8: Grades K-7 Parent/Teacher Conferences

- September 9: First day of school for K-7 students

Fall Planning and Guidance:

Like many of you, BEA Schools has been monitoring guidance in regards to COVID19. Last year presented us with many challenges, so we are especially excited for a much more traditional experience (we hope!) this year. Recently the CDC has updated their guidance to recommend masks for all students and staff. MDE has adopted this recommendation, but is not mandating masks for all. They have communicated that at this point, it is a local decision. As such, Blue Earth Area Schools will not be requiring masks for students and staff, but will be optional for those individuals who choose to wear one. BEA will be taking the approach of emphasizing proper hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, increased ventilation in all buildings, and encouraging spacing whenever possible. We are also asking all individuals to please stay home if you are not feeling well. There is still a federal mandate in place for masks on public transportation, which includes school buses. More information will be communicated if anything changes.

In the meantime, BEA will continue to meet with local public health officials and medical professionals to stay up to date and informed of the latest data. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing all of our students return to the buildings in just a little over one month!

Sincerely,

Mandy Fletcher, Superintendent
